The Eid holidays ended on Wednesday.

Massive crowds were spotted at all bus and railway stations and Sadarghat launch terminal in the capital on Friday.

A good number of buses had carried passengers from different districts to Dhaka, said workers of Sayedabad, Kalyanpur, Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals.

Pressure had started mounting since Thursday night, they said.

A similar scene was noticed at Kamalapur Railway Station. Noakhali Express, which arrived at the station at 12 noon, was packed with passengers.

Rafiqul Islam, a passenger on the train, said he had returned Dhaka with six of his family members without any hassle.

Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Sitangshu Chakrabarty said 18 trains had arrived at the station until 1pm on Friday, all completely packed with passengers.

He claimed that journeys during Eid had been comfortable this year as the number of carriages had been increased in every train.

Dhaka-bound passengers also enjoyed a quicker trip as the highways were almost empty.

Monazzil Riad, an employee of a private firm, made a trip from Chittagong to Dhaka within three-and-a-half hours.

“There was no traffic jam on the road. The bus stopped only once at a stopover during the trip,” he said.

Ekushey Paribahan Manager Rafiqul Islam said many had purchased advance return tickets for Friday.
