Ramp model-turned neo-JMB operative held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested a ramp model-turned operative of the Neo-Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) belonging to Sarwar-Tamim group from the capital’s Khilgaon area.

The arrestee is Imam Mehedi Hasan alias Abu Jibil, 29, son of Khorshed Alam, a retired assistant sub inspector of police, of Rajapur village of Patuakhali district. He passed B.B.A. from Darul Ihsan University and used to perform as a ramp model.

He joined neo-JMB’s Sarwar-Tamim group in 2015 and was the commander of ‘Brigade Ad-Dar-e-Kutni.’

Mehedi was wanted in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Banani Police Station.

RAB-3 Commander Lt Col Tuhin Muhammad Masud informed the Media about the arrest at press briefing held at the force’s media centre at Kawran Bazar on Thursday.

He said: “We arrested Mehedi along with two laptops, a mobile phone set, a passport, radical books and other evidences (of militancy) from South Banosree area at around 12.30am on Thursday.

“During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestee confessed his link with the militants who launched attack on Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery,” added the RAB official.
